Greif, Inc. Adds to Senior Management Team
- Fischer, Brown Named Senior Vice Presidents

DELAWARE, Ohio (Sept. 16, 2004) – Greif, Inc. (NYSE: GEF) has announced the addition of David B. Fischer as senior vice president and divisional president of Industrial Packaging & Services (IPS) – Americas, and the promotion of Ronald L. Brown, currently vice president – IPS North America, to senior vice president – Global Sourcing and Supply Chain.

The two will assume their new positions Nov. 1. Both will be headquartered in the Company’s Delaware, Ohio offices and report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Gasser.

Fischer will join Greif on Oct. 1 and spend the month visiting selected Company operations overseas.

“Dave brings a rich background in manufacturing operations and marketing to Greif, and knows the global market well,” said Gasser. “He will be an excellent addition to Greif as we focus on organic growth as well as growth through continued strategic acquisitions.

“Ron’s long history with Greif and his experience with managing our North America IPS strategic business unit have given him great insight into dealing with vendors as well as customers. He has the acumen and mettle necessary to take charge of our global sourcing challenges for all the inputs that go into making and delivering our products.

“We expect these moves to help push Greif to the next level of performance,” Gasser said.

Named business vice president for The Dow Chemical Company’s $1.8 billion polyurethanes business in 2000 and located in Switzerland since 2002, Fischer joined Dow in 1986 as a trainee. In his career with Dow, he held progressively responsible positions, including field sales representative, field application development engineer, market manager, group manager for strategic research and global business director.

Fischer earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University where he studied chemistry and physics.

Brown was hired by Down River International, then a subsidiary of Greif, in 1972 and was named president and chief operating officer of Down River in 1991 and chairman in 1995. When Greif divested Down River’s wood operations assets in 1997, Brown moved to Greif’s headquarters in Delaware, Ohio, where he was later selected to head the company’s Industrial Packaging & Services North America business, Greif’s largest strategic business unit. Recently, he became a founding board member of the Industrial Packaging Alliance of North America.

Brown has a bachelor’s degree in Sales Management from California State University at Chico.
